The F9 skips the cable run entirely. Its three lenses live in one body: a forward lens for the road, a side lens aimed at the cabin, and a second side lens angled toward the rear window. All three record simultaneously at 30fps. The trade-off is that the rear coverage comes from a lens sitting on your windshield, meaning it films the interior and whatever is visible through the back glass — not a clean bumper-level view.

Video Quality and Field of View Compared

Up front, both cameras record true 4K (3840 x 2160) at 30fps with a 170-degree field of view. Night Performance Is Closer Than You Would Guess

On paper the F8 should walk this category because its front camera uses a Sony STARVIS sensor. In practice, on a dark suburban street at 10 PM with no streetlights, the F8 identifies car colors and movement at about 30 feet and reads plates at roughly 15 feet with headlights off, 25 to 30 feet with them on. That is genuinely good for the money.

The F9's front channel is not STARVIS, so you lose a little low-light headroom — expect plates at around 12 feet in total darkness. Its cabin lens, however, has an unexpected benefit at night: if someone taps your window or approaches the car while you are parked, you catch them on camera from inside. The F8 cannot do that at all.

Installation and Cabin Clutter

Choose the F9 if you want one clean install, you drive for a rideshare or delivery app where the cabin view documents passenger interactions, or you park in busy lots where someone approaching from the side matters. It is the better pick for a leased car or any vehicle you do not want to pull apart.

Choose the F8 if rear coverage quality is the priority, you frequently drive highways and want the clearest possible plate on a tailgater, or you value the STARVIS front sensor for night driving. It is the more traditional, more reliable-evidence setup, and the dedicated rear camera still shows what a windshield lens cannot.
